UCC to get ultra-modern broadcasting house

An ultra-modern broadcasting house is being constructed at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) for its radio station, Atlantic FM.

The facility estimated at GH¢1,126,872, will house a proposed Television (TV) Station and also serve as a teaching laboratory for students of the UCC Department of Communication Studies.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the UCC, Professor D.D. Kuupole, who cut the sod for work to begin, said the project would enhance practical lessons of students of the Department.

Mr. Kwabena Antwi-Konadu, Station Manager of Atlantic FM, said the TV station when completed, would provide the platform for the station to contribute positively towards the growth of the media industry and the development of Ghana.

He said the UCC Students’ Representative Council had agreed to initially provide a quarter of the estimated amount for the project.

Mr. Antwi-Konadu said the radio station, managed by an eleven-member management board appointed by the Vice-Chancellor of the UCC, was funded by the Government of Ghana, its internally generated funds, donations and sponsorships.**
