UCC students calls for protection

Students of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) residing in hostels at Amamoma on Friday appealed to the school authorities and the police to beef-up security in the area to save them from attacks by criminals

An anonymous level 300 female student who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Cape Coast said due to the recent power outages in the area, thieves have taken advantage of the situation to attack and rob students of their laptops and mobile phones.

She said since the beginning of the second semester more than 15 laptops have been stolen from students at gun and knife point and that in some cases the victims are raped and beaten up.

She said for instance on Easter Monday a level 200 student was stabbed with a scissor and her laptop seized whilst another had his hands almost chopped off.

According to her, the incidents were rampant at Amamoma where almost 50 per cent of the student population reside.

She stressed that it was now a scary place to live for effective academic work.**
