UCC complies with injunction on rustication

The University of Cape Coast has stated that there is a hold on the suspension of some 18 students.

This was as a result of a High Court order in the Central Region which directed authorities to allow the students partake in end-of-semester examinations and other school activities.

A press statement from the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the university, Major Kofi Baah-Bentum (rtd), stated that authorities have received “an Order of Interim Injunction, No. E/12/161/2017 from The High Court of Justice of the Central Region, restraining the University or its agents from the rustication of some eighteen (18) students”.

The university was, therefore, complying accordingly with the directive.

The University Students Association of Ghana (USAG) has described the decision by the management of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to suspend 22 of its students as “narrow and ill-informed”.

The students were rusticated for allegedly engaging in some disturbances on the campus during a hall week celebration in March 2017 which led to the stabbing of three students, one of whom has been paralysed.

The court put a freeze on the suspension after the students and their alumni dragged the school to court.
