UCC commissions three projects

Cape Coast, Dec. 22, GNA – Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), on Monday asked the heads of the various units at the University to find innovative means of raising funds to maintain projects constructed for their departments. The Vice-Chancellor, who made the call when she commissioned three projects for the UCC Hospital, the School of Agriculture and a Club House for the senior staff, re-echoed the need for the country to develop a maintenance culture to save cost.

At the hospital, the key to a 40-bed ward constructed by the GETFund was handed over to Dr Kabiru Koredele Azeez, Director of the Department of University Health Services.

He noted that it had mounted a programme to inculcate healthy practices such as having good rest, good nutrition and regular exercising to promote healthy living among the University community. Dr Azeez said when adhered to, it would help reduce the incidence of contracting communicable diseases which kept increasing in the country. At the School of Agriculture, a farm building comprising offices for teaching assistants, farm supervisors and managers was also handed over to the Dean of the School, Professor Adjei Kwarteng. Prof. Kwarteng said the farm building was very important to the School because lecturers and all stakeholders could meet there to plan and strategize on how to produce more food for national consumption and for export.

He said the School was among the best agricultural institutions in the sub-region and that it would soon become a “tourist attraction” on campus. Dr Moses Eghan, Chairman of the Senior Common Room Committee, who received the keys to the Club House, said he would ensure that the place was kept active all the time for the relaxation of the senior staff. 22 Dec. 09
