U/E Regional Minister hands over to Successor

The outgoing Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru on Thursday handed over the region to his Successor, Dr. Ephraim Nsoh Avea

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru, who was reassigned to the Northern Region, said since he assumed office 11 months ago, the region had seen numerous development, adding that, he was instrumental in the proper acquisition and documentation of a secured land site at Sumbrungu, in the region, which would be used for the construction of an airport.

He said the Regional Coordinating Council had also acquired, and documented land sites at Bolgatanga -Sirigu and Winkogo, which would be used for an ultra modern Regional hospital whilst the current regional hospital becomes a Municipal Hospital.

On the state of the road network, he said a lot had been done, including works on the Bukere, Atulibabisi roads, the Bolgatanga–Bawku and the Navrongo roads, among others.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru said feasibility studies were also ongoing towards the Pwalugu Dam project, which would provide 60 megawatts hydro electricity power and also serve an additional function as an irrigation facility to enable the people to farm during the dry season.

He said GHC 1 million had also been secured to improve work on the Tamne Dam in the region, where farmers would be encouraged to go into tomato production to feed the Northern Star Tomato factory, which had been revamped.

In the area of peace and security, he said a lot had been achieved, especially in the Bolgatanga Municipality where the snatching of motorbikes had reduced drastically.

He said the Bawku Ethnic Committee problem had been resolved, and that the other group which withdrew sometime back had now returned to the Committee.

The Outgoing Regional Minister said the Region was endowed with a lot of potentials, and that, it needs more support for the opportunities to be tapped for the development of the area.

Dr. Avea, who lauded the outgoing Regional Minister for what he described as remarkable achievements, said it would serve as a benchmark for him to work hard to bring development to the Region, and called on the people to give him the maximum cooperation and support.
