Two workers’ bodies caution Vice Chancellors

Accra, Jan. 17, GNA – Two bodies representing workers’ interests within public universities have cautioned Vice Chancellors of Ghana (VCG) to convene without delay a meeting to conclude negotiations in respect of Condition of Service and Salaries for members of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG). The resolution said the meeting between VCG, TEWU and FUSSAG has been unduly delayed and “if by the close of work on Tuesday, January 29, 2008, the VCG has not made it possible for negotiations to be concluded, we will advise ourselves”.

A resolution jointly issued on Thursday in Accra and signed by Mr Dan Ayim Antwi, General Secretary of TEWU and Mr Mathew A. Eghan, President of FUSSAG, said that their action was motivated by the mounting tension among its members in the various universities over the delay on the conclusion issue.

It added that the joint action was reached at a meeting held on Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
