Two truck pushers fined for violating AMA ban

The Accra Community Centre Court “A” presided over by Mr Ali Baba on Wednesday fined two truck pushers 1,200 Ghana cedis for violating the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) ban not to operate around some streets in the metropolis.

Musah Mohammed and Abdul Kadri Sulemana, both truck pushers of Agbogbloshie market, were fined 600 Ghana cedis each on their own plea of guilty, or in default six months imprisonment each.

Prosecuting, Nii Okine Aryee of the Department of Public Health of the AMA told the court that truck pushers in the metropolis had been banned from operating around any ceremonial streets or sensitive places in Accra to obstruct motorists with their trucks but the accused persons violated the order.

He said the accused were found by the AMA task force on January 19, 2013, at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital road obstructing the public pathway with their four-wheel trucks full of scraps causing nuisance and disrupting other road users. Nii Aryee said the accused persons were arrested on the same day and charged with the offence to appear in court.

In a related development, Dr Simpson Anim Boateng, Director of AMA Public Health in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the AMA had put in place stringent measures to curb the menace of noise nuisance made especially by churches in Accra.
