Two teenagers killed in galamsey pit

Two teenagers have been confirmed dead at Bomaa in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region after a mining pit caved on them on Thursday.

The deceased persons identified as Yaw Sarkodie19 and Opoku Prince, 17 had gone to the abandoned Galamsey pit to prospect for gold when it caved on them but all attempts to rescue them proved futile.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that both were brought out of pit already dead with body injuries.

DSP John Yeboah, the Kwabeng District Police Commander, disclosed that his outfit rushed to the scene immediately they were notified but the two had died moments before their arrival.

“Their corpses have been deposited at the Kibi Government Hospital for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of their death while investigation is underway,” He revealed.

The police chief advised parents to encourage their wards to pursue education rather than engage in illegal mining activities.
