Two suspects attempt to escape in Court

Ho, Feb. 10 GNA – There was pandemonium at a Ho High Court premises on Friday when two suspects in handcuffs made a fast dash out of the courtroom, scaled a fence wall and with the speed of a hare left a police guard chasing them behind.

However, their adventure was short-lived when some bystanders helped in arresting one of them not too far from the court premises. Julius Eho, 23, unemployed and Kwamla Ahunda, 27, a truck-pusher, who were standing trial for stealing and disturbance of court, were being escorted by a policewoman, Constable Ophelia Hormey. Constable Hormey, wearing a pair of jeans trousers and a shirt with bare feet and sweating profusely, together with a crowd of her sympathizers, held onto Ahunda after they were apprehended. She also showed appreciation with a token of cash to those who helped in apprehending the escapees.

Briefing the GNA, Mr Lawrence Hiagbe, a Court Clerk, said he saw the suspects signal each other while he was making the necessary entries for their remand. “Before I could say jack, they made a quick dash out of the court room.”

The suspects have been remanded to re-appear on February 14.
