Tamale, March 11, GNA- The Tamale Police have arrested two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing expatriates working with NGOs and living in the Tamale Metropolis.
Alfa Abu and Kassim Mohammed, who were arrested upon a tip-off, are believed to members of an armed robbery syndicate, which has been terrorizing expatriates working with NGOs and residents of the Metropolis.
Abu, who was arrested on March 5, at one of his hideouts at the Low-cost Estates at Choggu, a suburb of Tamale, admitted during an interrogation that he had taken part in a number of robberies with Mohammed, alias “Nana” and others now at large.
Kassim, a blacksmith, was also arrested at Gumbihini, a suburb of Tamale, three days after Abu was nabbed.
He also told the police during an interrogation that he had also been involved in a series of stealing and robbery incidents, targeting NGOs and expatriates.
Mr Ernest Debrah, Northern Regional Minister who made this known at a news conference in Tamale on Thursday, said the suspects who are both Ghanaians, are in police custody pending further investigations. He however declined to give details of specific armed robberies involving the two, explaining that if that was done, it could give the accomplices now at large to escape.
He assured pressmen that any further development on the matter would be communicated to them as and when necessary.
Mr Debrah noted that the security situation in Tamale and the entire region is gradually improving and attributed this to the cooperation of the public in providing information to the security services. He therefore asked the public to keep it up.
