Two Security Men Rob Couple Of $40

A police constable and an immigration officer at Bolgatanga have been released on bail after their arrest in nine days ago, for allegedly robbing a Japanese couple of 40 dollars at gun-point in their hotel room.

Constable David Tarckie of the Striking Force Unit, and Elvis Boakye of the regional immigration office, were later granted police inquiry bail pending further investigations into the case.

A source at the Upper East Regional Police Command, headquarters told the Times that the Japanese tourists, Jun Aoki and his wife, arrived in Bolgatanga on Friday, July 1, and checked in at a hotel. The next morning the two security operatives went to the hotel and at gun point, ordered the watchman to show them the rooms of the white couple.

The source said that when the couple opened the door, the two men introduced themselves as security men and asked the Japanese to either produce their documents or surrender their money. The police source said that as the couple did not have sufficient cash on them, they pleaded and finally parted with 40 dollars. The couple reported the incident to the manager of the hotel who also contacted the police.

Preliminary police investigations showed that Constable Tarckie was a member of a team that was on night patrol duties in the town but he disappeared at a certain point and got engaged in the offence. The money was retrieved from them.
