Kumasi, Jan 16, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court, presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmorosa, has remanded two students into prison custody for impersonation.
Both pleaded guilty and were convicted on their own plea but sentence was deferred to enable the court decide on the punishment to impose on them following their counsel’s submissions.
Counsel pleaded on their behalf for leniency on the grounds that they were first offenders and that they showed remorse. Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Janet Oseiwaah told the court that Augustine Anane, a third-year pharmacy student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Prince Opoku, former student of the Sunyani Secondary School were all private candidates.
On October 13, last year, both Anane and Opoku wrote biology paper II at the Kumasi Anglican Secondary School (KASS) examination centre. When the candidates had finished writing the paper, Mr Paul Ayamba, complainant in the case and examination supervisor, in the process of going round to collect the examination papers saw Anane cancelling his name and index number on the answer sheet and then writing that of Prince, the prosecution said. Chief Inspector Oseiwaah said Mr Ayamba therefore became suspicious and handed them over to police at the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
During investigations, Anane revealed that Opoku was a friend and so he decided to write the examination for him.
