Two registration officials at Fawohoyeden dismissed

Two registration officers at Fawohoyeden in Asunafo North Municipality have been dismissed following an allegation by Mr. Mohammed Kwaku Doku, Municipal Chief Executive, that they are supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The officials are Nana Adu, Registration Coordinator, and one ‘Teacher’ Johnson, a registration officer.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Goaso, Nana Adu said, Mr Doku during a visit to Fawohoyeden on the second day of the registration exercise, insisted that they be dismissed whilst they were busy attending to the people in a queue.

Nana Adu said on the third day, whilst on duty at about 1200 hours, he received a call from the Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr. Yaw Boafo, that he (Adu) should report at the EC office and when he did he was told to leave the centre immediately because of the accusation and threats from Mr Doku.

Nana Adu expressed regret about the decision of the EC since he was competent and had worked with the Commission not only for this exercise but for quite a long time.

He denied the allegation that he belonged to the NPP and described the allegation as baseless.

When contacted Mr. Boafo confirmed the story and said he took the decision as a result of anonymous calls he had been receiving in respect of the credibility of the two officials.

“I cannot guarantee the security of the two officials, hence it would be prudent for them to stay away from the exercise”, he said and promised to replace them for the exercise to continue.**
