Two Policemen Remanded In Custody

Accra Two policemen, General-Sergeant B.B. Brobbey and Constable Ibrahim Adamu of the Asamankese police station, have been remanded in custody pending investigations into the death of one Daniel Awuku Dotse on April 30 at Asamankese in the Eastern Region. A statement issued today by the Police Public Relations Directorate said on April 30, Daniel Awuku Dotse reported to the Asamankese Police with a deep cut on his head, saying he had been assaulted by one Attah Appiah, a farmer and chainsaw operator in the town. The statement explained that the police decided to detain Dotse, because he appeared drunk at the time of lodging the complaint. But “the deceased would not understand why he should be detained and clung to the iron bars of the cells”. The statement said “in the attempt to release him, Dotse hit his wound against the bars, aggravating the wound”. He escaped from the Asamankese hospital, where he was admitted the following day, and collapsed in town. “The police then arranged for a vehicle to convey him to the Korle-Bu hospital, but he died on the way,” according to the statement. It explained that Dotse had bought some timber products from Attah Appiah, the assailant, and had made part-payment. Attah Appiah, however, re-sold the timber products to another person, starting the fight between the two during which Dotse was injured on the head.
