Two Policemen Interdicted For Extortion.

Two Police Constables have been interdicted for extorting $200 dollars from an Italian lady at Cape Coast. Eric Adzei and Alexander Nai-Ille both of tne Winneba Police Training School who were on duty at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Cape Coast, arrested a lady together with her boyfriend for caressing and kissing in public at about 2.30 am on July 31, 2001, during the PANAFEST Festivities.

They handcuffed the lady, Piretore Michele, who is on an exchange programme in Ghana and his boyfriend whose name was only given as Kofi.

The lady’s bag containing her passport and ticket were seized after which the policemen demanded $200 dollars in return, for the seized items. Since the couple did not readily have the requested amount on them, the policemen followed them home for the money.

After giving the policemen the money, the couple reported the case to the officer in charge of the police who inturn organised an identification parade, which exposed the two constables. A source at the Central Regional Police Headquaters in Cape-Coast confirmed the story but said further investigations are being conducted.
