Two pedestrians die in an accident at Winneba Junction

Winneba(C/R), Sept. 05, GNA – Two pedestrians Yaw Badu 14, and John Hanson 15, died on the spot when they were knocked down by a Ford bus at Winneba- Junction last Saturday.

Mr Nicholas Gasu, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of Winneba District Police Command told the GNA in a telephone interview that driver of the bus Mr Evans Mensah had been placed in police custody to assist the police in investigations.

DSP Gasu said on the afternoon of September 2, Mensah driving the bus from Essakyire to Accra saw some vehicles ahead of him at the Winneba Junction and a taxi cab ahead of him signalled to turn left, a Benz bus behind the taxi slowed down but Mensah failed to stop and over took the vehicles ahead of him.

He said in the process, Mensah drove into the off-side front portion of the taxi, lost control of the vehicle and knocked down Badu and Hanson standing on the pavement killing them instantly. DSP Gasu said the corpses had been deposited at the Winneba Government Hospital Mortuary for autopsy while police investigations continued.
