Two on bail after whipping woman with palm branches

Gifty Asi Debrah, unemployed and her son Derrick Kobby Siaw, a student, who subjected Madam Elizabeth Agyei, an employee of the AK Wood Limited-Akim Oda, to severe whipping with palm branches, have been bonded to be of good behavior for 12 months.

The Akim Oda Magistrate Court, presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor, ordered the mother and her son to pay 100 Ghana cedis each to compensate Madam Agyei.

Both of them would go to prison for 12 months in hard labour failure to execute the bond.

Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkoh, told the court that, Madam Agyei lived in Asi Debrah’s uncle’s house at Akim Asene.

He said on March 23, while Madam Agyei was about to take her bath, Asi Debrah entered the house and started to abuse her, prompting her to also insult her.

Asi Debrah called her son, Siaw, on phone and on his arrival, both of them pounced on Madam Agyei and severely whipped her with palm branches.

He said a report was made to the police who arrested Asi Debrah and her son.**
