Two NPP supporters fined for assault

Mankranso (Ash), Jan 15, GNA – The Mankranso magistrate court on Tuesday fined two drivers 300,000 cedis each for assault. Kwaku Boakye, 21, and Eric Dapaa, 21, pleaded guilty. They will go to jail for six months each in default.

Police Inspector Edwin Dei-Offei told the court, presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that the two accused persons were supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) while the complainant, Badu Kaakyire, supports the NDC.

He said on December 7, 2004, the accused persons and five others now on the run threatened to beat Kaakyire because he supported the NDC. Inspector Dei-Offei said at about 1600 hours on that day when Kaakyire was returning from farm, the accused confronted him, picked a quarrel with him and beat him up resulting in his sustaining injuries.

He said Kaakyire therefore, reported the case to the Tepa police who arrested the two accused persons while the others managed to escape and after interrogation the two were charged with the offence.
