Two members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have applied to the High Court in Accra for an interlocutory injunction against the holding of the Extraordinary National Delegates Conference scheduled for Saturday, July 19, 2025.
The members, Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Kwadwo Boateng, are seeking an order to restrain the party from organizing the conference, which is set to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra from July 18 to 20, 2025, pending the final determination of the suit.
In his affidavit in support of the application, Kwadwo Boateng stated: “I am a card-bearing member of the Defendant in the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.” He attached a copy of his NPP card, marked as Exhibit BK 1.
Boateng further explained that the party’s constitution governs its actions, conduct, membership, structure, organization, procedures, and activities. He attached a copy of the NPP Constitution, marked as Exhibit BK 2.
According to Boateng, the party’s constitution outlines specific procedures for organizing conferences, including Constituency Annual Delegates Conferences and Regional Annual Delegates Conferences, which must take place before the National Annual Delegates Conference.
He cited Article 7 of the constitution, which states that the National Annual Delegates Conference shall meet once every year, at least four weeks after the last of the Regional Annual Delegates Conference.
The applicants are seeking an order of interlocutory injunction to restrain the party from proceeding with the Extraordinary National Delegates Conference until the court determines the suit.
