Two men behind a string of violent robberies in the Upper West Region have been handed lengthy prison sentences following a successful police investigation.
Abdulai Ibrahim, 34, popularly known as Baba, and Abdulai Kipo, 36, were sentenced to 28 and 18 years in prison respectively with hard labour after being found guilty of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
The convictions were secured at the Wa Circuit Court, where presiding judge His Honour Jonathan Avoogo described their actions as calculated and dangerous, having brought fear to several communities in Wa Municipality.
The pair were implicated in a series of robberies in the Napogbakole, Danko, SSNIT, and Konta areas. According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, their arrest was the result of a targeted, intelligence-led investigation by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
“The court’s verdict is a strong message that crime will not go unpunished,” the Command said in a statement shared via Facebook. “We remain resolute in our mission to make the region safe for all.”
Residents in Wa have expressed relief at the sentencing, with some hoping it marks a turning point in efforts to curb rising incidents of armed robbery in the region.
Police have urged the public to continue supporting their efforts by sharing information that could help prevent and solve crimes.
