Two new vaccines launched in Tarkwa Nsueam

Health officials in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality have launched the two new vaccines, pneumococcal and rotavirus, which will be introduced nationwide to reduce diarrhoea and pneumonia deaths.

A total of 3,000 vaccines have been received and the health sector has projected to immunize 600 children.

Addressing nursing mothers at the ABA Hospital, Dr. Jack Galley, the Municipal Health Director for Tarkwa Nsueam, appealed to mothers to ensure that they practice exclusive breast feeding, adding that adequate nutrition should be included in meals prepared for the children.

Launching the vaccines, Mr. Kojo Osei, the Deputy Coordinating Director for Tarkwa Nsueam, said the government was committed to investing in the health of the people through policies that promote good health.

Mr. Osei said the vaccines would assist the country to meet the Millennium Development Goals which is to reduce infant morbidity and mortality level to two-third by 2015.**
