Two nabbed over fake cedi notes

Two women have been arrested and are being held by the police at Akomadan, in the Offinso North District of Ashanti Region, over fake GH¢ 20 notes.

Naomi Obeng and Akosua Nyarko were caught with the counterfeit currency on July 21.

They had gone to the Akomadan market to buy goods, but the alertness of some of the traders exposed them.

They were using the denomination to buy items that sold at prices as low as GH¢1.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Kwaku Ampofo-Duku, Deputy Regional Commander, told a news briefing in Kumasi that the suspects claimed the notes were supplied to them by one Addae.

The police, he said, had mounted a search to apprehend the said man, to aid in investigations.

He said a total of GH¢ 1,200 of the fake money has been recovered from them.
