Two-month old baby abandoned

Accra June 29, GNA – A two-month-old baby was on Monday evening abandoned at La in Accra.

Mrs Victoria Nortey, a Food Seller at La told the Ghana News Agency that at about 1600 hours on Monday, her 17 years old daughter was selling food when a woman carrying a baby came to buy Waakye from her. After eating, the woman asked if she could leave her baby for safekeeping to enable her to visit the toilet and she obliged. “After waiting for hours without seeing the woman, my daughter came and narrated the incident to me. We looked everywhere for the woman but could not find her” she said.

Mrs Nortey said she reported to the La Police, who referred her to the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Police.

Mrs Sophia Amofa Torpey, Commander of the Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Police Service, told the GNA that the woman had also left a polythene bag, which contained the child’s clothing, pomade, sponge and weighing card.

Information on the weighing card indicated that the baby was born at Konkromoase, under the Bantama District in the Ashanti Region. Other information on the weighting card gave the mother’s name as Adisa Alhassan and the father’s name as Issah Ibrahim, while the child was born on the 28th of April 2004.

Mrs Amofa Torpey was worried about the fact that the incident was the third this week.

She said WAJU would send a message to the Kumasi Police to help find the mother of the child and appealed to the general public to also help trace the parents. 29 June 04
