Forikrom (B/A), Nov. 11, GNA – The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service will soon launch a campaign to combat Tuberculosis (TB) in the country.
This was disclosed by Mr. Joe Hagan, Secretary General of the Ghana Society for Prevention of TB, at the celebration of the “Kwabeni Yam Festival” of the chiefs and people of Forikrom in the Techiman Municipality. It was on the theme: “Reconciliation and Meaningful Socio-economic Development of the area”.
Mr. Hagan said the mode of transmission of TB was through coughing and sneezing hand shake, sharing of dishes and toilet facilities in a family set up rather it was through.
He called on teachers, extension workers and the media to wage war against the disease and to adequately inform the public about TB programmes. Nana Nketiah Katapillar, Techiman Municipal Control Officer of TB, reminded the public that TB patients were entitled to free medical care, saying “TB patients can be treated and cured if they seek early medical attention”
He advised people to avoid coughing and sneezing at public places since it was some of the ways through which the disease could be spread. Nana Okogyeaman Kese Basahia, Chief of Forikrom, commended officials of the TB control unit for their fight against the disease. He called on the people to ensure unity, peace and love for the development of the area.
Nana Basahia urged parents to invest in the education of their children and avoid materialism.
He disclosed that through the support of some benevolent organisations, he had acquired textbooks and computers for Seventh-Day Adventist and Methodist Junior High Schools in the area. 11 Nov 09
