Two men arrested over fake currencies

Kumasi, Aug. 23, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Police on Monday arrested a businessman and a communication centre owner for possessing a variety of fake currencies.

Sulemana Mohammed and Alhaji Shamusu Yusif were found with 969,000 dollars, 2.343 million CFA Franc and 2.260 million cedis, all believed to be fake.

Speaking to newsmen in Kumasi, Assistant Commissioner of Police Seth Charles Oteng, Deputy Regional Police Commander, said on Monday, August 21 at midnight, the two men were riding on a motorbike and on reaching the Manhyia roundabout they were involved in an accident. ACP Oteng said a suitcase containing the money then split opened, when the truck hit the motorbike.

He stated that the police proceeded to the scene and arrested the victims with their monies.

However, Alhaji Yusif, who was in a critical condition, had been admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while Sulemana was in police custody.

ACP Oteng said the two persons would be arraigned in due course.
