Two members of a wood stealing syndicate jailed

Mamponteng (Ash), May 18, GNA-A District Magistrate Court at Mamponteng on Wednesday sentenced two members of a wood stealing syndicate, that operated at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre District to a total of 36 months imprisonment in hard labour.

Abdul Karim, a driver, and Bashiru Gambo, a porter, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing. Police Inspector Ben Apuriyure told the court presided over by Mr Uuter P. Dery, that the accused who were members of the group stole wood belonging to the Ahwiaa Wood Sellers Association.

He said the suspects stole 32 pieces of wood and concealed them in Karim’s truck but a Watchdog Committee that was formed by the association arrested them. 18 May 05
