Two killed in Bawku

Bolgatanga, Aug. 21, GNA – Two people were on Thursday night shot to death and two others were injured by unknown assailants in Bawku, Deputy Upper East Regional Police Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) George Tuffour has said. The injured are on admission at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital. ACP Tuffour, who was speaking to GNA in an interview on Friday, gave the names of the deceased persons as Abdul Ganiru, 30, and Fire Officer DO II John Atugiba.

Those injured in the incident are 60-year-old Razak Abdul Rahaman and Ambia Fuseini, aged 15. ACP Tuffour said the body of Abdul Ganiru had been released to his family for burial after post mortem established that he was shot from behind.

He said Mr Atubiga sought permission to go to town and on his way back to the office he was ambushed and shot five times. He said 33 suspects have been picked up for questioning.

ACP Tuffour said the Police could not establish whether the incident was connected to the ethnic conflict.
