Two jailed a total of 20 years for stealing

A farmhand and another person who broke into the safe of a cocoa purchasing clerk to steal Ghc32,340.00, have been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each by the Bibiani Circuit Court.

Kwaku Dagarti and Yaw Anortey pleaded guilty.

Police Superintendent Victor Abrokwah told the court that the purchasing clerk had engaged Dagarti as a farm labourer at Wassa Domeabra Camp, on December 31, last year, and just within two weeks the key to his safe went missing.

It was stolen by Dagarti and aided by Anortey it was used to open the strongbox to steal the cash which was meant for the purchase of cocoa from farmers.

The prosecution said the convicts fled to Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region where they deposited part of the stolen cash into a bank account and also bought a motorbike.

They were tracked down and arrested following police investigations.
