Two jailed 30 years for robbing teenager of GH¢70

A Wa Circuit Court has sentenced two friends to a total of 30 years for robbing a teenager of GH¢70 at knife-point at Kambale a suburb of the Wa Municipality.

Amadu Abu, a 19-year-old mason and Fuseini Adams, an 18-year-old ex-convict were found guilty of the offence by the court presided over by Mr Baah Forson Agyapong and subsequently handed 15 years imprisonment in hard labour each.

Prior to handing the verdict to the accused persons, the trial judge said he took into account the rampant robberies in the Wa township and the fact that Adams was an ex-convict, thus the harsh sentence to serve as a deterrent to others.

According to the facts of the case as presented to the court by Chief Inspector Daniel Yeboah, Abu and Adams, who had just been released from the Wa Central Prisons after serving three months in jail for a similar offence, are all residents of Wa.

He said in the early hours of July 20, this year the girl was walking along the Kambale road to the bakery to buy bread when the two brandishing a pair of scissors and a knife forcibly took the money from her.

Chief Inspector Yeboah said the victim raised an alarm which attracted a watchman and a policeman who gave the perpetrators a hot chase.

He said Abu was arrested and the pair of scissors was found on him.

He later led the police to arrest Adams at his hide-out at Duori three days later.
