Two men, who attempted to rob a lotto collector with a wood carved in the form of a single barreled shot gun and knife, have been sentenced to a total of 20 years imprisonment by a Tarkwa Circuit Court.
The two, Abdul Wahab Saeed,31 and David Akologo, a labourer, 25 were given 10 years jail sentence each.
The Prosecutor, Detective Inspector Clement Amoah, informed the court that the complainant, Kwaku Boah, is a labour at Asankragwa Senior High School and also collects lotto sales around Samreboi and its environs for a lotto operator in Asankrangwa.
He said on March 4, around 18:40 hours, Akologo armed with a wooden gun and knife met Saeed at the outskirts of Asuohyiam and they laid ambush on the Asuohyiam Asankragwa road to rob the complainant.
According to him, at about 1840 hours, whilst the complainant was riding a motor bike with registration number M-15-AS.2783 towards Asankragwa, Akologo blocked the road with a piece of wood and attacked the complainant with the knife and attempted to rob him of his sales while Saeed was waiting in the bush.
The complainant struggled with him until a witness who was also traveling on a motor bike in that direction chanced upon them.
The Prosecutor said the witness shouted at Akologo whom he knew, compelling the convict to escape into the bush.
Detective Inspector Amoah said with the help of the youth in Asuohyiam Akologo and Saeed who were resident in the area were arrested and sent to the Asankragwa police for investigation.
Detective Amoah explained that Akologo admitted the offense in his investigation caution statement and named Saeed as his accomplice.
