Two in court over 140 pellets of cocaine

Accra, May 14, GNA – A Circuit Court in Accra on Wednesday remanded into prison custody George Weah Kperperh for expelling 100 pellets of cocaine when he was picked up during pre-boarding formalities at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The same court also remanded Vincent Kofi Sarabi, a Togolese for expelling 40 pellets of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine. The court did not take their plea.

They are both being held for attempted exportation of narcotic drugs and possessing drugs without lawful authority. They will reappear on May 26.

In the case of Kperperh Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Edward Ansah said on May 9, this year, at about 10:30 pm he arrived at KIA to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam and while he was going through pre-boarding formalities, Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) suspected him of carrying foreign material in his stomach.

Operatives of NACOB therefore, arrested him and put him under surveillance and he expelled 100 pellets of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine.

Kperperh admitted the offence when security personnel quizzed him and he stated the drugs were given to him by one Kwesi to be given to one Kobi in Holland for a fee of 3,500 Euros.

Sarabi was also picked up on May 6, this year at about 6:20 pm when he arrived at KIA to board a Lufthansa flight to Germany. When he was put under surveillance for two days he expelled 40 pellets of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine. The exhibits have been forwarded to the Ghana Standards Board for analytical examination.
