Two in court for stealing and dishonestly receiving charcoal

Akim Oda (E/R), Jan 23, GNA – The Akim Oda Magistrate Court has sentenced Kwabena Aniagyei, a farmer, to a fine of GH¢100 for stealing 10 bags of charcoal, in default he would serve a 12 month prison term in hard labour.

The court has ordered Aniagyei who pleaded guilty to stealing, to pay additional amount of GH¢64.00 in respect of eight bags of the charcoal.

Asi Manu, a trader, who pleaded guilty to dishonestly receiving the goods has been bonded to be of good behaviour for six months, failure for which she would pay GH¢100, in default, would go to prison for 12 months in hard labour.

Asi was ordered by the court to pay GH¢16.00 for the two bags of charcoal that she unlawfully purchased.

Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that both Aniagyei and Asi live at Akim Asene and that on January 6, this year the complainant, Mr Kwaku Ahenkorah noticed that his 10 bags of charcoal parked by the roadside had been stolen.

Chief Inspector Ahenkorah said the complainant’s own investigation revealed that there was one bag of the charcoal in Asi’s house and therefore, made a report to the police, who arrested her, adding when interrogated her, she mentioned Aniagyei as having sold them to her.
