Two in court for stealing

Bright Kofi Godwin, a driver’s mate and Emmanuel Boadu, an unemployed, on Friday appeared before the Takoradi Circuit Court “B” for allegedly conspiring to commit crime and stealing.

Their plea was not taken, and the court presided over by Judge Charles Nimako remanded them, to re-appear on March, 3.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Seth Ahelegbe, said Godwin, the first accused, was the driver’s mate of one Osofo, the son of the complainant, Maame Nsruwaa, a fishmonger resident at Effia.

He said Osofo stays with Godwin at Effia and also takes good care of him.

Inspector Ahelegbe said on February 13, this year, Godwin misbehaved towards Nsruwaa and was sacked from the house.

He said Godwin went and stayed with the second accused, Boadu, who is his friend, at Kojokrom Agric.

Inspector Ahelegbe said at dawn on February 14, Nsruwaa left an amount of GHC4,000 in a yellow polythene bag in her kitchen.

He said after taking her bath, Nsruwaa went to the kitchen, but she could not find the yellow polythene bag containing the money.

Inspector Ahelegbe said Nsruwaa raised an alarm, but she could not find the culprit.

He said Nsruwaa’s own investigations revealed that it was Godwin who sneaked into the kitchen and stole the money.

Inspector Ahelegbe said while the Police investigations were going on, Nsruwaa learnt that Godwin had absconded to Mankessim in the Central Region and was in hiding.

He said Nsruwaa went to Mankessim and sought the assistance of the Police there and the accused was arrested and brought to the Effiakuma Police Station, where Nsruwaa lodged a complaint.

Inspector Ahelegbe said Godwin admitted the offence in his caution statement and mentioned Boadu as his accomplice.

He said Boadu was also arrested at his hide-out at Kojokrom Agric by relatives of Nsruwaa and taken to the Effiakuma Police Station.

Inspector Ahelegbe said Boadu denied the offence in his caution statement, but the accused persons were charged after further investigations.
