Asamankese (E/R), May 17, GNA – Two men, Kwame Ofosu, described by the police as an Indian hemp peddler and Kennedy Kwabena, driver, have been remanded by the Asamankese Circuit Court for allegedly possessing four sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp. Their pleas were not taken and they were remanded until June 1, 2005.
Police Chief Inspector G. D. Bruce, prosecuting, told the court that on May 11, the Kade Police in the course of checking indiscipline among drivers on the Kade-Kusi road, stopped a Toyota Corona taxicab number ER 34 P, driven by Kennedy at about 0700 hours with Ofosu sitting by him.
When the trunk of the taxi was opened, it was discovered to be containing four sacks of leaves suspected to be Indian hemp for which Ofosu claimed ownership.
Ofosu allegedly told the Police that Kennedy always drove him to Akyem Oda to distribute the stuff. Chief Inspector Bruce said the leaves would be sent to the Police Forensic laboratory for analysis and the report submitted to the court.
