Two Ho Polytechnic students drown at Wli Falls

Hohoe, April 18, GNA – Two final year Building and Technology, Higher National Diploma (HND), students of the Ho Polytechnic were on Saturday drowned at the Wli Water Falls in the Hohoe District. The bodies of the two students, whose identities the Police would not disclose have been deposited at the Hohoe Government Hospital for post-mortem.

The Police explained to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the identities of the victims would only be provided after the school authorities had been contacted and the information communicated to the victims’ parents. They were both about 23 years old.

According to Police Superintendent Mr James Azumah Abass, Hohoe District Police Commander, the students were among a group of students who visited the Falls during an excursion as part of their Central Hall Week celebration.

He said their colleagues discovered that the two were missing after they had assembled to board a vehicle for their return journey to Ho. Mr Abass said, with the assistance of some town-folks, one of the bodies was retrieved at 2215 hours on Saturday while the other body was also retrieved at 0905 hours on Sunday.

Mr Abass cautioned people who visit the Falls to be extra cautious and avoid drunkenness and violence.
