Abuakwa (Ash), April 7, GNA – The Barekese and Asuofua Health Centres in the Atwima-Nwabiagya district of Ashanti are to be expanded under the Town Four Project, while a maternity block is to be built at the Abuakwa Health Centre under the Community-Based Rural Enterprises Project. Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, announced this when he paid familiarisation visits to the health facilities in the district.

He pledged the assembly’s continued support to the health sector since health is an engine of development.

Mr Ofori-Donkor praised the Medical Assistants and staff of the various centres for improving on infrastructure development and equipments through their internally generated fund.

He urged the centres to devote about minutes daily to educate visitors on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

Madam Beatrice Appah, the District Director of Health Services, said challenges facing the centres included lack of transport especially an ambulance, inadequate furniture for staff and visitors who attend the centres and the non-mechanisation of casual workers who had worked for very long periods. 06 April 06
