Two granted bail for issuing false cheque

Two persons were on Monday granted bail in the sum of GHc60,000.00 with two sureties each by an Accra Circuit Court, for abetment of crime and issuing of false cheque.

The two, Ama Serwaa, Trader, was charged for abetment of crime and Samuel Amo Hackman, Secretary, was also charged for issuing a false cheque.

They are to reappear before the court presided over by Madam Helen Amoah on November 24.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sophia Anim told the court that the complainant, Benjamin Dan Williams is a student and resides at East Legon while Samuel is a secretary at Tiger Transport Union.

She said on August 5, this year, the two accused persons went to the complainant, together with one Asare, now domiciled in Turkey, who needed an amount of GHc11,130.20, to purchase an air ticket to enable him to travel to avoid his visa expiring.

She said the accused persons, who knew the complainant, pleaded with him and after listening to them -gave them the said amount.

According to the prosecution, Samuel issued a Beige Capital cheque to the complainant with the promise that the money would be ready in 72 hours after which he could go and cash the money.

DSP Anin told the court that the 72 hours elapsed without the complainant seeing the accused persons and all calls to them was not successful.

She said on August 18, the complainant presented the cheque at the Beige Capital Bank but it was dishonoured. He then reported the case to the police and the accused persons were arrested.

The prosecution said Samuel in his caution statement admitted issuing the cheque but stated that Ama coerced him to do so.
