Two Fulani herdsmen remanded in custody for cattle theft

Aflao, Sept; 20, GNA – Two Nigerien Fulani cattle herdsmen, who allegedly clubbed a colleague unconscious and stole 10 of his cattle, a bicycle and dresses, have on Friday, been remanded in custody by the circuit court at Aflao.

Ali Hamah, 18 and Amadu Jallo, 38 have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, causing unlawful harm and stealing. They would reappear on September 27.

Two others, including one Sambo, alleged to be involved, are on the run.

Police Chief Inspector Pius Cudjoe, in-charge of Akatsi police, told the court, presided over by Mr. Godwin Kwasi-Kumah that the accused persons and the two at large, are all Nigerien herdsmen based at Lawui, near Akatsi.

He said about 1900 hours on August 16, the complainant, Seidu Mamaoudu, also a Nigerien herdsman, based at nearby Klokope, and well known to the accused persons, returned from the bush with his animals. Chief Inspector Cudjoe said the accused persons and the two at large, who were in arm bush around Mamoudu’s kraal, attacked him with cutlasses and clubs on the head, leaving him bleeding unconscious, and they then stole 10 of his cattle from the kraal, his bicycle and two long dresses (gowns).

He said Mamoudu who regained consciousness and after days of treatment at Horga Clinic at Akatsi, reported to police and investigations led to the arrest of Hamah and Jallo at another village in the Akatsi District and one of the animals retrieved.
