Yendi, (N/R), Jan 11, GNA – Two suspects who were smuggling 2,500 cartridges and a shotgun to Bimbilla on Tuesday would appear before a Tamale circuit court on Thursday.

The accused persons, Likaye Sanga, 32, and Siso Sanga 34, are charged with for illegally possessing firearms in a prohibited area. The Yendi District Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Maxwell S. Atingane, told newsmen on Wednesday at Yendi that police on routine duties at the Bimbilla barrier on Tuesday impounded a Benz mummy truck with registration No. GW 3209 V carrying assorted goods including five boxes of cartridges and a shotgun. He said the police were making efforts to arrest the alleged owner of the items.

Mr Atingane said the police were vigilant in their efforts to stem the volatile security situation in the eastern corridor of the region, especially Yendi and Bimbilla and appealed to the traveling public to cooperate with the security personnel who would subject them to searching.

One of the suspects, Siso Sanga, denied that the items were for them and mentioned one Unanyu as the owner of the items.
