Two farmers in trouble for theft of cocoa

Two farmers have appeared before the Nkawie Circuit Court for alleged theft of cocoa beans valued at about GH¢400.00.

Christian Kwame and Kwame Gyebi pleaded not guilty and were each granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000.00.

They would re-appear on June 20.

Police Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the court that the complainant, Madam Doris Amoabeng, and the accused are all farmers at Debra Camp near Bibiani.

The woman, on April 19, harvested and fermented the cocoa beans on her farm, but Kwame and Gyebi stole the beans under cover of darkness.

The complainant discovered the theft when she went to convey the cocoa beans the next morning and reported the theft to the Police and the two were arrested.**
