Two died in accident on Bolga-Bawku highway

Saaka (U/E), Feb. 01, GNA – Two persons, including a four-year-old girl, died on the spot when a Ghana Telecomm (GT) pick-up collided with a Guinness distribution truck on the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway last Saturday.
Two other staff, a cashier and security personnel together with his wife who sustained injuries are still on admission at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, whilst the sixth occupant escaped unhurt. The driver of the Guinness truck and two other members who also sustained minor injuries have been treated and discharged at the same hospital.
The deceased persons have been identified as Sampson Akotey, a 29-year-old technician-driver and the girl, as the daughter of the couple on admission.
Narrating the incident to Ghana News Agency (GNA), the sixth occupant and technician staff of GT, Mr. Moro Bukari, said they attended the company’s end-of-year party at Bolgatanga and left at about 19 Hours for Bawku.
He said they were six on board the pick-up with registration number GW 923 Q, with the cashier occupying the front seat whilst he together with the couple and their daughter were at the back seat. He said at a hilly curve section on the outskirts of Saaka, about 20 km away from Bawku, they saw a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction on top speed crossing into their lane.
Mr. Moro explained that their vehicle swerved off the main road but the Guinness truck collided with their vehicle which somersaulted, killing the driver and the girl instantly.
According to him, inhabitants rushed to the scene to convey the injured to the Zebilla district hospi tal, whilst they cut the mangled vehicle to remove the driver. The Zebilla police have confirmed the incident and added that the driver of the Guinness truck with registration number GR 5187 X was yet to give his statement for investigations.
