Two demos hit Accra, K’si over blackouts

There will be two separate demonstrations in the two biggest capitals of Ghana Saturday over a similar concern – poor power supply.

Angry residents in Aboabo in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi are getting ready to demonstrate on the city’s major streets over the worsening power situation in the country.

The residents vented their anger on an official of power distributor Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the city recently by attacking the person.

They say the erratic and uncontrolled power outages have destroyed their frozen foods in their fridges as well as messed up their electrical appliances.

Police in the region are on high alert following threats by the residents to attack installations of the power distributor.

A few weeks ago, angry residents at Chantan in Accra also demonstrated against the ECG branch there and threatened similar attacks.

Similarly, residents of Fadama in the national capital, Accra are also gearing up for a demonstration over the same erratic power concerns.

Ghana is currently experiencing severe power crisis.
