Two cops interdicted for deserting duty points

Koforidua, Sept. 22, GNA – The Eastern Regional Police Command has interdicted the two policemen who allegedly deserted their duty points at Amanokrom and mounted an illegal road check on the Mamfe-Adawso road to extort money from drivers last Saturday, September 18.

Their interdiction, which took effect from September 21, was contained in a letter signed by the Eastern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, E.P.K. Mensah.

It was copied to the Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, and the Akropong-Akwapim Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Sam Acquah and released to the press at Koforidua on Wednesday.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Peter Nanfuri, spotted the two policemen, Corporals Addai Krah and Ebenezer Sakyi of the Akropong-Akwapim Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit, collecting moneys from some drivers on the Mamfe-Adawso road on Saturday during the Odwira festival of the chiefs and people of Amanokrom.

A police source said when the IGP stopped at the checkpoint to to ask of their mission, the two policemen allegedly fled into a nearby bush. The source said the IGP made a report at the Mamfe police station and ordered an investigation and identification of the two policemen. The statement said disciplinary action was being instituted against them.
