Two common carriers convicted for stealing garden eggs

Sekondi, Feb. 9, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday sentenced Eric Amponsah and Kojo Kumi, both porters, to 12 months in jail each in hard labour for stealing three bags of garden eggs at the Takoradi circle market.

They pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor, said at about 0500 hours on January 6 this year, Ama Acquah, a trader living at Kwesimintsim took three bags of garden eggs valued at 450,000 cedis to the Takoradi market to sell.

He said the woman packed the bags of garden eggs at a spot near the market to enable her to rest until daybreak. But while resting, the accused persons sneaked in and stole the three bags of garden eggs, the court heard. Chief Inspector Hedidor said the woman went to report the theft to the police and also caused a radio announcement to be made on ‘GoodNews FM’ in Takoradi.

He said on January 7 this year, Amponsah and Kumi took the stolen bags of garden eggs to the Sekondi market to sell and were seen by an informant who reported them to the Police.
