Two brothers in court for causing harm

Asamankese (E/R), Aug. 13, GNA – Two brothers, who allegedly attacked a trader with knives have appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court on two counts of assault and intentionally causing harm. Kofi Akpakli and Kwaku Ayeh pleaded not guilty and were remanded in prison custody to re-appear on August 16,

Prosecuting, Police Detective Inspector Osei Owusu told the court that on April 3, this year, Ayeh and Akpakli, both farmers stabbed Francis Govia at Apaw Wawase village, near Suhum.

The prosecutor explained that on the day in question, there was a wake keeping in the village and most of the youth from the area including the complainant and the accused attended.

At about 2300 hours, a misunderstanding arose and Govia saw Ayeh advancing towards him with a kitchen knife in attempt to stab him. This brought about a scuffle between them, but Govia managed to seize the knife, which he handed over to another person for safekeeping. Ayeh then held Govia and in the course of the struggle, Akpakli came, from nowhere to stab Govia on the chest with a knife and together with Ayeh, they fled.

Govia fell unconscious and was rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

Chief Inspector Owusu said in his statement to the police, Akpakli admitted the offence but said the complainant first stabbed him with a bottle, that was why he used the knife to stab him.
