Two brothers drown in fish pond

Akwatia, July 03, GNA – Two brothers drowned in a fish pond at Akwatia on Thursday while they were out fishing.

Edmund Ganda, 12, and his eight-year-old brother, Rudolf, both pupils of the Saint Dominic Roman Catholic Primary School at Akwatia, lost their lives in the pond belonging to the Saint Dominic Hospital. Both children lived with their parents in the hospital compound where their father worked as chief security man.

A family spokesman told the Ghana News Agency that during the fishing, Rudolf fell into the pond and that Edmund, in a fruitless attempt to save his brother, also got drowned. Their youngest brother, a kindergarten pupil, who was with them rushed home to report the incident.

Security men at the hospital retrieved the bodies and deposited them at the mortuary.

The Akwatia Police confirmed the incident and said the deceased would be buried after autopsy. 03 July 09
