Two arrested over fake recruitment

The Eastern Regional police command has arrested two people for allegedly collecting various sums of money from people under the pretext of getting them enlisted into the Ghana Police Service and the Nursing Training College respectively.

Briefing the press on Friday, in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Police Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Edward Fakye Kumi said the two suspects, Kwabena Osei Agyemang, 43, a second hand cloth seller and Kwabena Appiah, 48, who claims to be a staff of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), all resident of Efiduase-Koforidua.

He said a police officer posed as a parent who wanted her son to be enlisted into the police service and called one of the suspects, Kwabena Appiah on his phone to assist and the suspect demanded a cash amount of GHC2,000.00 and then directed the officer to his house at Effiduase.

Mr. Fakye said the officer traced Appiah to his house and paid the amount to him and thereafter arrested him. Appiah then led the police to his accomplice who was also arrested.

He said a search conducted on Osei Agyemang led to the discovery of thirty-nine school certificates with the passport pictures of the applicants attached.

Mr. Fakye said preliminary investigation revealed that Osei Agyemang had collected GHC7, 800.00 whilst Kwabena Appiah has also received GHC900.00 as his share of the total amount collected from unsuspecting clients.

He appealed to the general public to desist from paying monies to people who approach with the promise of securing jobs for them, especially into the police service.
