Two arrested in Nyashegu riots

The Tamale Metropolitan Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the riots that broke in Nyashegu, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.

The youth of the town Friday morning went on a rampage burning houses of some alleged witches in the area.

The angry youth suspect the alleged witches are responsible for the several mysterious deaths that have occurred in the area in recent times.

Kasapa FM’s Northern Regional Correspondent, Elliasu Tanko said six houses were torched by the youth who were on a vandalization spree.

However, the Tamale Metropolitan Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Wisdom Lavoe said there will still be Police patrols in Nyashegu and surrounding villages to maintain calm in the area.

“We have so far arrested two people and we are trying to locate the victims and send them to the Police station for their statement to be taken. The case would be investigated and those connected who have been identified with the rioting will be taken to court for prosecution.”

“For now we’re going organize the patrol and we’ll be on the grounds for the whole of today and then depending on the situation we’ll still have to standby with some men over here,” he told Accra-based Citi FM
