Two arrested for setting fire in Koforidua

Koforidua, Feb. 4, GNA – Two persons have been arrested by the Koforidua Municipal Police Command for setting fire at ‘Pintoa Wala’ in Koforidua on Thursday to obstruct the construction of an ultra modern Bus terminal for the metro buses.

The Pintoa Wala area is known to be the home for many criminals and criminal activities in the Municipality has been earmarked for the bus terminal project to ease traffic congestion. According to the police they received information that fire had been set by some of the squatters, who had been ejected from the place. They said they quickly moved in and saw two persons at the scene who were arrested.

The police the two suspects claimed that they were only packing their belongings after the demolishing exercise to a safer place. Information obtained by GNA indicated that the squatters at the place were served with notices to vacate the area to allow for work to commence. After the deadline the Municipal Assembly organized a demolishing exercise last Wednesday to forcibly eject them.
