Two arrested for illegal possession of arms

Abuakwa (Ash), Aug 6, GNA – Two persons, Kwadwo Grushie and Nyan Bonte Noamesi, were on Wednesday arrested by the police at Abuakwa for possessing illegal arms.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency at Abuakwa in Ashanti that at about 1100 hours on July 24, this year, while police were on duty at the Abuakwa snap checkpoint, a taxi pulled up with the two suspects on board.

The source said the police decided to conduct a search on the taxi and in the process Grushie attempted to escape but was given a hot chase and arrested him after a fierce struggle. The source said a search on his person exposed a live cartridge in his breast pocket while a locally manufactured gun was found in the taxi.

The suspect, the source said admitted ownership of the gun but explained that it was abandoned and he took possession of it.
